Default New to PvP.

Well, went and did it... joined a guild that does the PvP/GvG stuff. Actually gave my first PvP a go last night, learned a valuable lesson... I suck in PvP.

So, here I be, asking for a shred of advice on how to make a Ranger/Mez into a viable team player in the PvP world.

I eagerly await tidbits of wisdom.

R/Me are the best class for caster disruption. Take Distracting Shot and a few interrupts with you at all times. Choose your targets in this order (the first listed being the first targeted):

Anti-Caster Mesmers
Monks
Elementalists
Necros
Anti-Physical Mesmers
Rangers
Warriors

You target them in that order for a few reasons. Generally, the team that wins is the first team to disable or kill the enemy's Monks. So, you want to kill both the enemy Monks and enemies that can take out your Monks. Also, you'll do more damage to the caster classes than you'll do to Warriors, so you'll kill faster (also, most of the Warriors that I see use shields and great armor, while casters use Superior runes, even though it should be the opposite).

Always bring a res signet. ALWAYS BRING A RES SIGNET. This is the most important advice I can give for any PvP build. The only exception would be something like a Me/Mo or W/Mo that brings a reusable res.

I always use a PvP character for PvP. I automatically get perfect max damage weapons and the best armor in the game. I don't have to worry about refund points and I can change runes and equipment around without spending lots of gold. The only downside is that sometimes you don't have certain runes or weapon upgrades unlocked. Still, it's easier to unlock those than it is to buy them for a PvE character. Here's a hint, always unlock skills through PvE and runes/upgrades through spending faction.
